Couples photography

There she was.  She sat at an outside table of a cupcake shop just behind the Mission Inn.  She wore this cute black and white checkered coat with perfectly coordinated horse back riding style long black boots.  Around her neck, she had this gorgeous oversized pearl necklace that had a black ribbon in the back.  Her soft curled hair lay back down to her shoulders where the mild fall sun hit.  I have been following her blog ever since I was interested in wedding photography and I love the cheerful, vivid and beautiful images she takes and her fun writing style.  I’ve been looking forward to meeting her in person and wanted to take her workshop for some time now.  Her name is Kamee June.

When I walked over to the table she was sitting at, she turned and asked me “Are you Akiko?” She immediately gave me this warm smile and a big hug even though she doesn’t even know me.  To me, she is a famous celebrity.  Now, she is in front of me, knows my name and she just gave me a big hug.  I was in shock at that point.  She asked me some questions like “how long have you been shooting pictures?” and “what do you like to shoot?”  I can’t even remember what I said to her in response.  I’m sure I gave her silly answers and smiled awkwardly so that I can at least respond to her.  Have you ever had a time where your mind goes completely blank all of the sudden? And you can’t seem to find any good words in your mind because the excitement and the happiness?  It was that moment for me meeting Kamee.

While I got myself sort of back in shape, she talked and shared about her passion for wedding and couples photography.  You can sense her love for capturing the moments for couples and getting to know about them during the photo sessions when you listen to her. Her beautiful green eyes were a little bit watery and shinny from her passion for photography as she spoke to us. She even comically said, “I’m a emotional person!!!” with a big smile.  She genuinely loves what she does though her photography and cares so much about her clients.  I love that about her!!!

One thing she talked about stood out for me in particular.  She said, “don’t underestimate the power of a photograph” with her soft but deep voice.  It is so true and I couldn’t agree more to what she said.  When you look at a picture of your wedding day or the first walk of your child years ago, doesn’t it naturally make you smile and melt your heart?  Doesn't it bring back some memories that you thought you’ve forgot about?  And you will then start thinking about the story behind the picture, why and how it happened.  Is it amazing?!?!?

The photograph has power to transport people back to the significant and the tender moment the couple had.  What’s captured in the image will live forever and that little image can take you back to the specific time, intimacy, chemistry and excitement when the image was taken for you and your partner.  I just love that about pictures!  We don't even realize but pictures are that powerful and speak to you more than thousand words by just glancing at it.  Even thinking about it gives me a chill.  Ohhhh, I love photography!!!!!!  I need to stop myself here because I would start to ramble on which I tend to do.

At the workship, Kamee had a great couple as models, Alicia and Josh. They are a beautiful and fun loving couple who are married for 14 years and had 4 boys together (I’m not kidding!!!).  They had great chemistry and we are merely there to observe and record the beautiful moments until the sun went down.  Alicia - you are so gorgeous.  How do you maintain your body like that after having 4 kids, seriously???  I had an amazing time shooting the couple and meeting with my new photographer friends.  If you are interested in photography and want to learn about posing, light etc, I highly recommend taking a Kamee June photography workshop.

Special thanks to the amazing stylist Katrina Kirk.  She made the beautiful couple sparkle even more with her magic.  And thanks to the Mission Inn for allowing us to shoot at their location.
